The AppleCare extends the current warranty on your iMac by 2 years.
For the record, there is not an existing 3 year warranty from Apple.
Some sellers word things to appear that way but read closely the actual warranty is the initial year Plus 2 more years for a total of 3 years.
Any documentation you would receive in the package is available online, but is is not needed to activate the warranty.
